Sequestration: Bring it On!

The president has been playing the Republican Party like a concert violonist.

I have a feeling he may have been playing too loud this time around. Clearly, he thought he could frighten many people with the specter of  spectacularly painful federal budget cuts. Never mind that the so-called “sequestration,” obligatory budget “cuts” can  only affect less than 3% of the federal budget. Never mind that the same federal budget is planned to be more than 3%  higher than last year. (And hence, under sequestration the money the federal government will spend will still be higher than last year, not lower.) Never mind that the president is deliberately playing with people’s ignorance of our system of government: He does so, for example, when he threatens  loss of fire and police services . (To our foreign friends: Police and fire are paid for and organized at the local level. They are explicitly not a part of the federal government’s functions.)

Never mind all the falsehoods. The President’s crying wolf seems to have got much of the electorate interested in wolves. I am one of those. The president is offering us, conservatives, a spending cut of sorts on a silver platter. I think it’s good training for the real thing. I think it’s a valuable  experiment although he will try to manipulate it. I suspect he will overplay his hand and show us on television repetitive pictures of starving orphans to be blamed on the heartless Republicans who will not increase taxes on the rich because they are the rich, or their slaves. The orphans will be of politically correct diversity ( not excluding pale-skinned hillbillies with dirty blond hair.)

President Obama  acts more and more like a head of state of old in eastern Europe who would have received 97/1/2 % of the votes cast rather than slightly more then half of the votes of the half that bothered to vote among the roughly half who are eligible to vote (plus probably a few votes from people who were not actually eligible to vote. I am not denying that Lucky Hussein is the legitimate president. I am just remind you of the touching peculiarities of voting in Illinois, Louisiana, New Jersey, etc.).

And Michele Obama, la presidente is now aspiring to become Evita Peron. Look her up. I mean look up Evita. Michele is on your television screens all the time. more than say, the Queen of England is on British television screens. You will like Evita’s  story. It will remind you of home.

As I wrote in an earlier post, the sequestration would be fine if it included the entire budget and not just a small portion of government spending. However, trying to get Congress to listen to logic is just a fool’s errand.

Those of us that originate in eastern Kentucky prefer the term ‘briar-hopper’ to hillbilly.
