European Union Resurrected. Arafat Exhumed!

Too much to do in this season to blog seriously. Also my continuing international conversations with the Dane I call Frans command some of my time. (They take the form of “Comments” to my essay entitled: “Challenge From Social-Democrat Denmark.”)

The Norwegian Nobel Committee is continuing its pathetic descent into irrelevancy. It just awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to the European Union, N. S. ! The awarding of the prize to Barack Obama for what he was going to do was just one stop on the way to oblivion.

I guess the EU deserves the prize because not even two of the 27 members have begun eviscerating each other at all for years. Way to go Europe! The prize also acts as a sort of resurrection for a dying dream.

The fall began when the Nobel Peace Prize Committee awarded the prize to the arch-terrorist Yasser Arafat. Want the prize? Murder many people and then, just stop.

Speaking of Arafat, notice the big silence following the exhumation of his body? An international team of forensic specialists is looking for signs of his having been poisoned. Big, big silence.

I think I know what killed him. Here are some hints: Why would you send your revered national leader to die in a foreign country? Why France? What are the French good for? What can they be counted on for? (Obviously, I don’t mean food!) Why a military hospital for an obviously dying man? What does military discipline add to the advantage gained by sending him to die in France?

No poison will be found.

About Jacques Delacroix

I write short stories, current events comments, and sociopolitical essays, mostly in English, some in French. There are other people with the same first name and same last name on the Internet. I am the one who put up on Amazon in 2014: "I Used to Be French: an Immature Autobiography" and also: "Les pumas de grande-banlieue." To my knowledge, I am the only Jacques Delacroix with American and English scholarly publications. In a previous life, I was a teacher and a scholar in Organizational Theory and in the Sociology of Economic Development. (Go ahead, Google me!) I live in the People’s Green Socialist Republic of Santa Cruz, California.

  1. “Frans” here.. – I’ll keep my opinion about this piece to myself – except I’ll say it’s GOOD 🙂
I just couldn’t resist telling Jacques what I’ve just read on a Danish Libertarian site.. so: Consider this a response to “What are the French good for” ? – Well, they could strip people of their French Citizenship for tax evasion..

COMMUNIQUÉ DE PRESSE – Yann GALUT (PS) propose d’imposer ou de déchoir de la nationalité française les exilés fiscaux

    • I am reading this fascinating story in Le Figaro. It’s great. Gerard Depardieu just moved to a town in Belgium one kilometer from France. I love it!

It’s perfectly fine to explain in detail in a comment why a posting is wonderful. It breaks no rule.

  2. Scott says:

Ever since the Nobel committee set the precident for prizes for future intent I have been lobbing them for my grandson’s, Zephrum’s prize. As any good trekker knows, Zephrum Cochran, born 2035, inventor of the warp drive who used it to discover and visit Vulcan, with his diplomacy and brilliance created trade and ushered in a new era of peace and prosperity for both planets. (wikipedia, look it up, yes often but not always spelled Cochrane)

If that isn’t worth at least 2 prizes, what is? It is far greater than anything Obama will ever do…

  3. Terry Amburgey says:

“What are the French good for?”

Now THIS is a question worthy of extended discussion. Anyone have any hypotheses?

  4. Bruce says:

I think you’re being a bit harsh on the Nobel committee for their boundless optimism. Why not join with them in celebrating the landmark achievement of Europe going nearly 20 years without any massive ethnic cleansing? The uptick in morale might help propel them to getting another 20.
    Get surreal!

    • Terry Amburgey says:

Jacques is still pissed off at the Nobel committee for not giving the economics prize to Arthur Laffer.

      • I wasn’t thinking about it but now that you mention it, I am angry in addition to being contemptuous.

      • Prof. Terry: The task of educating you never stops although it does not overwhelm me. It was the Norwegian Nobel Committee I was deriding. The Economics prize is given by the Swedish Nobel Prize committee. Norway; Sweden: Different countries . Look it up!

My only criticism of the Swedish Nobel anything is that the relevant committee obscure writer from country whose language nobody understands.

To help you remember : If they were in America, Norway would be Wisconsin and Sweden would be Connecticut.

    • THat’s what I said, more or less (“eviscerating”)
