Boko Haram: US Disengages!

Boko Haram kidnapped more girls in northern Nigeria. That’s after slaughtering about one hundred villagers last week.

Democratic circles have declined to renew their hash/tag  campaign on the social media against Boko Haram. Democrat leaders say that we, the US, have been involved in this war far too long.

Boko Haram  is a terrorist organization that declares that it acts on behalf of Islam. (“Haram” means” forbidden in Arabic, a language  the various people of Northern Nigeria don’t use except in the specific religious context of Islam.)

I am under the impression that there is nothing in conventional, orthodox Islam that forbids raping non-combattants captured in war. I hope that a Muslim (or two) will correct me if my impression is wrong.

About Jacques Delacroix

I write short stories, current events comments, and sociopolitical essays, mostly in English, some in French. There are other people with the same first name and same last name on the Internet. I am the one who put up on Amazon in 2014: "I Used to Be French: an Immature Autobiography" and also: "Les pumas de grande-banlieue." To my knowledge, I am the only Jacques Delacroix with American and English scholarly publications. In a previous life, I was a teacher and a scholar in Organizational Theory and in the Sociology of Economic Development. (Go ahead, Google me!) I live in the People’s Green Socialist Republic of Santa Cruz, California.

  1. You are losing your grip on reality. The US has never been at war with Boko Haram, or Islam.

Your question about “conventional, orthodox Islam” forbidding rape is disingenuous. What, for example, constitutes “conventional, orthodox Islam”? I am sure the folks in Boko Haram can find verses in the Quran that verify their ideology. I am equally sure that Boko Haram believes itself to be a “conventional, orthodox Islam” organization. Likewise, I am sure reformist Muslim groups claiming to be “conventional, orthodox” Muslims can find verses in the Quran debunking Boko Haram’s claim.

In fact, there is nothing to forbid both groups from using the exact same scripture to bolster their side’s argument! Such is the nature of religion. You, of course, know this. It is institutions that matter, not religion.

  2. I know that the US has never been at war with Boko Haram.

  3. The founder and prophet was a war leader. What did he do with the wives and daughters of his defeated enemies? The answer is in the Koran, surely an important book for Muslims. You take it from there.

Is there any chance it will make a difference in your lapidary view of religions in general?

No Muslims or former Muslims has answered my query.

    • Lol. Why are you squirming like a worm on a hook?

Is the United States at war with Islam? This is a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ question.

      • Brandon: You are changing the subject.

The US is not at war with Islam in any sense of the word. Every time you ask me one of your puerile would-be trap questions, I answer clearly. (LOL) You never acknowledge and never draw the obvious lesson.

I don’t know why you would even ask me the question. You must be thinking of someone else.

In the meantime, will you look at the assignment I suggested? Or ask one of your better informed better?

      • I asked you the question because you wrote, and I quote:

Democratic circles have declined to renew their hash/tag campaign on the social media against Boko Haram. Democrat leaders say that we, the US, have been involved in this war far too long.

Since you acknowledge that the US is not at war with Boko Haram, and since you acknowledge (with persistent prodding from yours truly) that the US is not at war with Islam, I am forced to ask: What war are you referring to?
